Project Description

Background

Headquartered in Mississauga, Ontario, Unisync Group Limited is a full service, vertically integrated provider of uniforms, workwear, image apparel and related solutions. With distribution centers in Western and Central Canada, Unisync Group serves many corporate clients and services 30,000+ ship-to locations in North America and numerous locations worldwide.

Challenges

Unisync Group has been contracted by Purolator, Canada’s top integrated freight and parcel solution provider, to set up an internal e-commerce website which will enable their employees from multiple locations to be able to order their uniforms online. Not only does Purolator’s e-commerce website integrate seamlessly into Unisync Group’s internal inventory software system, the website must also provide French language support for its employees in the province of Quebec.

The existing e-commerce infrastructure upon which Purolator’s corporate apparel website was to be built supported only one language. Faced with a tight delivery schedule, Unisync Group needed to quickly come up with a multilingual solution which would minimize the risks of schedule uncertainties, cost overruns and breaking existing functionality commonly associated with low level software re-architecture and base software re-writes.

Solution

After downloading a copy of Web Lite’s open source SWeTE website translation software and conducting an initial evaluation, Unisync Group and Uniform Market, its design partners, decided to establish a Purolator trial site with the assistance of Web Lite. With the two technical teams working closely together, the content of the website including its product inventory was extracted for translation and language dependent logic was inserted to handle all dynamic page elements associated with e-commerce.

A custom API was also created to provide French support for order confirmation emails.

Results

The entire process, from the initial trial site setup, content extraction and translation, language dependent content massaging, and testing, took a total elapsed time of six weeks. During this time, Unisync personnel were also trained how to use the translation server software including translation.

Purolator’s internal corporate uniform website was successfully deployed and is now serving its employees countrywide.

“We had never needed our web sites to be translated to French. When the requirement arose, we feared a massively expensive solution or a quick solution with many problems, including slow execution and bad translations. Instead we found SWeTE from Web Lite. This extremely professional organization provided us a quick solution with fast execution speeds and human translation. What could have been a nightmare ended up being a pleasure. I highly recommend this company to anyone with the need to translate a web site or many web sites into any language. At worst, if they don’t have people who can translate into your target language, they can help you find them. Their tool does the rest!”
